Stéphanie's Bio
Stéphanie Plante is serving her first term as City Councillor for Rideau-Vanier and Deputy Mayor of Ottawa. Since being elected in 2022, she has built a reputation as a collaborative and determined leader who delivers practical results for neighbourhoods. Whether advocating for affordable housing, safer streets, better access to health care, or more vibrant public spaces, Stéphanie believes local government should improve everyday life for the people who call Ottawa home.

Over the past four years, Stéphanie has championed initiatives that are making a lasting difference across Ward 12 and beyond: She led Ottawa's first School Street to make it safer for children to walk to school, brought forward the City's first Primary Care Strategy to help recruit more family doctors, and spearheaded Canada's first municipal wastewater surveillance strategy to detect emerging toxic drugs before they claim more lives.
She secured Ottawa's first sponge park at Carillon Park to help protect neighbourhoods from flooding, championed the planting of three tiny forests, supported the expansion of the ANCHOR program into Ottawa's east end, and helped transform the former Shepherds of Good Hope emergency shelter into a vision for permanent supportive housing. She also worked to bring the Ottawa Humane Society's veterinary services to Vanier, advocated for new commemorative spaces including Mary Papatsie Park and Herbert and Estelle Brown Park, and has consistently fought for investments that strengthen the health, safety, and quality of life of residents.
A proud francophone, Stéphanie has called Ward 12 home since moving to Ottawa in 2004. She lives in Sandy Hill with her family and their beloved dog, Diego and her angelfish, Swim Shady. Stéphanie remains committed to building safe, inclusive, and welcoming communities where families can thrive, local businesses can succeed, and every resident feels they have a voice at City Hall. Stéphanie was a surrogate for a gay couple in 2017 and believes that LGBTQIA+ rights are human rights.
In her spare time, Stéphanie is a basketball referee with the Ottawa Valley Board of Approved Basketball Officials and is a member of the Women in Basketball Officiating Collective (WiBOC) and the Officials Institute, which aims to recruit more women in officiating in all sports. She loves coffee, audiobooks, reality TV and is a season ticketholder with the Ottawa Blackjacks.

We had such a fun time at @blokjam ! @lucillecollard and I were invited to watch the breakdance competition and hand out awards this Saturday at @bywardsquare.
Blokjam brought live DJ sets, rap performances, graffiti art and breakdance battles together for one incredible afternoon. I kind of lost it when DJ @john.arano played “Ugly” by @bubbamathis. Does anyone else remember that song? Bar for bar, guys!
Congratulations to all the participants. We love events that bring people of all ages and cultures together in our outdoor spaces.
It was also great to run into Nora from the BMDA, who helped organize our FIFA Watch Party in July, and @falldowng , a true legend in the local art scene!
I love seeing this kind of creativity in our @bywardmarket !

Happy Labour Day, Rideau-Vanier!
I grew up with two parents who worked shifts, so I understand the importance of unions and the protections they have fought for: fair wages, benefits, safer workplaces and dignity on the job.
Today, I’m highlighting two initiatives I’m proud to have supported or launched as your city councillor.
Rideau-Vanier will be Ottawa’s first ward with a city-run daycare offering extended hours for residents who work early mornings, evenings, nights and weekends. Its workers will be unionized and receive benefits and a pension. We’re still looking for the right location, so send me your suggestions!
Ward 12 also has a new scholarship for high school students entering the skilled trades. In partnership with @collegelacite and École secondaire publique @esp_delasalle , one student will receive financial support toward their training each year.
Supporting workers means helping the next generation access the childcare, training and opportunities they need to succeed.
